what happens to someone who dies from addiction or overdose

“My addiction was really taking me through the ringer, and in the end, my addiction ended up killing me, and in 2019, I had a near-death-like experience as a result of an overdose, and it completely transformed my life 180 degrees.”10:23

“So my parents made a decision in 2007 to stop using drugs, and they did that by committing one another. I was 23 when that happened, and my sister was 18, and it was such a traumatic, stigma-filled loss. It really bonded me to drugs in this super dark way, and it's the only thing I had that I thought that I could cope with. You know, that was the only way that I could cope.”0:51

“I work with a lot of people who are experiencing grief and I do help guide them through that and it's not something that goes away and especially if it's a a child, it it never is going to go away, but you can get to a place of peace and you can get to a place where you can utilize that to help other people and you know, that is something that we can do with many other things that are not as severe as that, but like addiction, the program that surrounds addiction is about you getting sober and then you help others get sober.”47:00

“When I passed away, I had a lot of addictions too.”6:00

“Or maybe you're the family member died of overdose, and you think you should have, right? I know a lot of people like that. I think they should have been the one that didn't make it. And I always thought, why didn't the family survive? And I, you know, was the one that I would have wanted. I didn't want to be alive at that point.”35:09

“And when he died, he died from drugs?”22:45

“But, but either way, I mean, I'm happy that, you know, she found some peace and comfort before she passed, because it again, it's a heavy burden, you know, to have addictions and, and you know, she never, the whole residence of her not feeling good enough and not being able to deal with her own emotions and hiding in alcohol and taking it out on others.”53:53

“Yeah, it was like a drug overdose slash, he had kind of a bad heart to begin with, but so he was born with kind of like a heart murmur. But the drugs thing really was it. Like he mixed drugs with alcohol, and then, like, you know, different types of drugs, and it was just, I think it was just the end of it. So when he died, that was kind of the beginning for me. Like, I've always kind of been attuned to spirits since I was little. I would see spirits, but that kind of numbed away and went away as I got older. But when he died, it was like that reignited me because he came to me in a very strong way afterwards. And that kind of, like, I don't know, it didn't really help, of course, because here I am trying to kill myself a year later. But was it because of his death?”3:09

“was with who I thought was that was my friend. It was drug buddy. Uh she she was a very bad heroin addict and I I was just dabbling into it and she uh she gave me a a shot in my arm. It was that night when I like realized the um just how heavy I was, just how deep I was. just um what a how dark it was, how a dark place it was. I do want to pause for a moment to say that it is very very common for people who either die of a drug overdose or with drugs in their system when they pass and somebody who”3:17

“Death led me over to the same cabinet at my rehab that I had taken the meds from, like identical. And I asked, 'Where does that lead to?' He said, 'Home.' Then the cabinet opened, and a bright light shone through. The bright light hugged me and enveloped me. It was familiar and fatherly. It was an emotion I had never felt on Earth. No pain, no suffering, no tears, just unending, undying love. Since I had spent most of my life suicidal and in pain, it felt strange, but I knew I wanted to be there no matter what.”4:45

“like like what was it and was it painful? And she said no. Like she kind of just left her body. She wasn't feeling the physical pain of it or something like that. But I think it's different for different ones. If one of them is like at peace and they're super like spiritual when they die, they're going to have way different abilities than somebody who died with a ventilizer on them with opioids. So the ones that have died like that, they actually have to be helped to move on and then they can come back and they can kind of like”13:52

“The normal dying process is comforting. It is often experienced as a preparation for the life beyond. Upwards of 70% um see people who have died um who returned to them. And interestingly, they leave out the person who harmed or unconditioned or had conditional love for them. So it may be one parent but not another. Um, so there's almost this edifying that identification process that that takes place.”18:49

“And I looked into the faces of, of one that had died in a robbery attempt, who had been shot to death and led to death on the sidewalk, and I looked in the face of two others that had died drunk in an automobile accident, and I looked into the face of others that had died of drug overdoses that we'd partied together, and, and the agony and the pain, but I believe the most painful part of it was the loneliness and the depression was so heavy that there was no hope, there was no escape, there was no way out of this place.”5:00

“Um, like before this, I was struggling with drug addiction. I was just struggling with not living my life in a way that I would consider to be good for myself in any way, shape, or form. Um, a year prior, my younger brother had died as well, so I had, I was very grief-stricken. But drugs were always a thing that I battled with, and then it got to the point where I just became so heavy, so negative, that it was more or less like, "I just don't want to live anymore. I don't want to be here."”20:16

“My parents were addicts. They taught me how to use. Their parents taught them how to use. And it's been that way for generations and generations. My life was darkness, depravity, and I had this spontaneous awakening. It”1:11

“Yeah, you know, it was just so traumatizing and so traumatic. And my sister and I coped in very different ways. I went like headfirst into my own addiction, and my addiction kind of became my, my parent. It felt like my addiction spoke to me and said, I'll never leave you, I'll never abandon you. It's me and you together forever. And so it became my best friend, it became my parent, it became my companion, it became my whole personality. I'm covered in tattoos of liquor bottles and packs of cigarettes. Like this was my identity. This was what I was going to do until I died. And I thought that the only way to stop using drugs was to die because that's what I saw.”10:49
