The Story
A 66-year-old retired law enforcement officer from San Diego experienced a near-death event after a motorcycle accident on April 30, 2008, in the Ozark Mountains. He crashed into a bale of hay, fell off an embankment, hit a tree, and broke most major bones in his body, including both legs, arms, back, ribs, and collarbone. He could not move and prayed to die as he bled internally. An elderly lady with white hair and dark-rimmed glasses appeared beside him in a 1960s-style dress. She comforted him without speaking English, communicating soul-to-soul that she was there to help. She stayed for about 30 seconds and vanished when rescuers arrived. In the hospital, after losing four pints of blood, he saw beings from the other side, both good and bad. He later realized the lady was his Sunday school teacher from age 10. He saw images of his grandmother, grandfather, and a young girl, possibly linked to his deceased baby brother. He had an out-of-body experience where someone took him by the hand out a window to a beautiful place with unknown colors and music; he did not want to return. He met a seven-foot guardian angel in white who said he was there to help through life. He also saw a dark black square place for evil souls, filled with moaning. After the NDE, he received miraculous healing of his back pain through prayer, allowing him to walk miles without pain despite crooked legs and scars. His faith in God and Jesus strengthened, but he rejected organized religion. He gained prophetic dreams and spiritual gifts to sense spirits. He divorced but shares his story to encourage others to surrender to God and fight through suffering.
“God left me alive to tell with those people a lot of people I have people who”
The account features one moderately strong veridical claim of recognizing a long-forgotten deceased Sunday school teacher appearing at the accident scene, with appearance verified by sister's description after six months, providing some evidential value. However, perceptual access was possible via normal senses, no impossible vantage points or medical details were perceived, and verification occurred long after the event without prior blind reporting, limiting overall strength.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
