The Story
Bob Bloom was a 19-year-old Marine Corps member stationed in Coronado, California. His near-death experience happened after brutal rubber raft training in cold water, which left him soaked, hypothermic, and exhausted. He drove to his girlfriend's house and lay down in bed. He felt himself zooming at high speed. A presence appeared and said he was dying. It told him to decide: enter the light and not return, or go back. For the first time, he felt no pain and complete well-being. He tasted his life and sensed it was unfinished. A voice from outside him said no, he had to return because much was left to accomplish. He decided to go back using his mind. He slowed toward a brilliant pearlescent gold orb of well-being. Rubber bands snapped him back into his body. He sat up in bed, crying as pain returned. After the NDE, Bob knew he was a spiritual being having a human experience. He never feared death again. This gave him courage to overcome inner pain through meditation and inner child work. He built a successful life but later let go of material things to pursue deeper spiritual purpose and joy.
“free of pain in my life felt wonderful there was no pain there was no physical”
This NDE lacks any veridical perception claims, featuring only internal spiritual experiences like speeding through a tunnel, encountering a presence, and a life review without observations of the physical world. No specific, verifiable details from an impossible vantage point are reported, resulting in minimal evidential strength across all criteria.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
Are you here because someone you love has died?
These accounts were gathered because death may not be the end. Thousands of people have experienced something beyond — and come back to tell us about it.
