The Near Death Experience of Mr. Rudolf Geiger
What Researchers Found
The Story
Mr. Geiger, a man with polio who used walking aids, suffered shortness of breath at home. He called for help and was rushed to the hospital in St. Gallen, where he became unresponsive and entered intensive care. Doctors cut open his throat tube and examined his body, inserting tubes everywhere. During his three-week coma, he floated away into a tunnel. He moved forward with walking sticks toward a bright light. He reached a green meadow with a shining sun and intense colors. He met deceased people he knew from his past in Rapperswil, including a cafe owner and family killed in an accident. They welcomed him warmly, dressed normally. He continued and met a bright being in white robes like an angel with long white hair. The being asked if he wanted to stay or return. He chose to go back because he had things to do. He returned suddenly to his hospital bed. After the NDE, his view of life changed completely. He now lives each day fully aware, giving thanks in the morning and evening. He lives more consciously and purposefully than before. He sees the extra two years as a gift and has become a different person.
“for your future life my view of life has had really been tough i did not live”
This NDE lacks veridical perceptions of medical procedures or hidden physical details during unconsciousness, limiting evidential strength. A minor claim of seeing acquaintances unknown to be deceased (cafe owner family killed in accident) provides some specificity and unpredictability but lacks explicit verification or pre-report documentation. Medical severity is evident from unresponsiveness, intubation, and three-week coma-like state.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
Are you here because someone you love has died?
These accounts were gathered because death may not be the end. Thousands of people have experienced something beyond — and come back to tell us about it.
