The Story
Kathy Trueheart was a five-year-old girl who nearly drowned in a muddy lake in New Vineyard, Maine. She wore an inner tube around her waist and dove into the water, which trapped her underwater. Underwater, she opened her eyes and saw a clear, turquoise lake with a sandy bottom and colorful tropical fish, unlike the real murky pond. She believed she could breathe underwater. A huge white light then illuminated the lake. She felt one with the lake and the light, experiencing peace, calm, unconditional love, and nirvana. She did not see people or feel out of her body. Her mother noticed her flailing legs, pulled her out, and saved her. After the NDE, Kathy felt a strong sense of purpose and responsibility. She became a lifelong seeker of truth and light. This led her to help others from a young age. She pursued a 40-year career as a hospice nurse, sharing her story to comfort dying patients and families. She wrote the book 'The Miracle of Hospice' based on her experiences. She lost fear of death and became hypersensitive to loud noises.
“alive and i felt her spirit i knew she hadn't left yet and so i just like”
The NDE lacks any veridical perception claims, featuring only subjective internal visions (beautiful lake transformation) without impossible sensory access, specific verifiable details, or post-experience verification. No OBE or observations of external events beyond possible underwater sight of nearby legs; all elements are unverified hallucinations common in NDEs.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
Are you here because someone you love has died?
These accounts were gathered because death may not be the end. Thousands of people have experienced something beyond — and come back to tell us about it.
