Nancy Rynes: Awakenings from the Light
What Researchers Found
The Story
Nancy Ryan, a geologist and former skeptic, experienced her NDE in January 2014 after a bike accident in Colorado. A woman in an SUV struck her, dragging her underneath for 50 feet, which caused multiple broken bones including her back. During surgery, her heart rate dropped to zero due to an anesthesia reaction. She left her body and entered a beautiful realm with pearlescent light, mountains, trees, and clouds. She felt deep peace, love, and a welcoming embrace from the divine. A female guide approached, hugged her, and showed her around this holding area created for her comfort. They walked, lay in a meadow spotting cloud shapes, and the guide taught lessons on love, compassion for all people, seeing the soul's light in everyone, and optional reincarnation. Nancy saw that each life is unique and precious. She resisted returning but was told to go back and share the teachings. After the NDE, Nancy struggled with pain in her broken body but soon regained a sense of divine connection. She shifted from skepticism to spirituality, wrote the book 'Awakenings from the Light,' started a blog, and now teaches about the afterlife and bringing heaven to earth.

This NDE account features clinical death during surgery but contains no veridical perception claims of real-world events or details impossible to know normally; the experience is limited to subjective heavenly visions, a guide, and life lessons with a minor OBE-like sensation during a conscious accident lacking specifics or verification.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
