David Ditchfield: An NDE for Dyslexia
What Researchers Found
The Story
David Ditchfield, a man struggling with dyslexia and alcoholism, had a near-death experience in 2006. It happened when his coat caught in train doors, dragging him under a speeding train at a station while seeing off a friend. During the NDE, he left his body in the hospital. He saw colorful orbs and lay on a comfortable rock under a blue sheath. Healing grids of light bathed him. An androgynous being stood at his feet, and two female figures healed his physical and emotional wounds with unconditional love. He realized they were his lifelong guardians. He viewed a waterfall of stars connecting to the universe. Then a tunnel of white light with flames appeared as the source of creation and God. He returned to his body. After the NDE, David gained talents for painting afterlife visions and composing symphonies without reading music. He became a successful artist, composer, and author of 'Shine On,' transforming his life from failure to purpose.
“bathed in this light because I felt that nothing I'd ever felt before it was like”
This NDE transcript contains no veridical perception claims, such as observing specific, impossible-to-know details from an out-of-body perspective that were later verified. The experience is purely subjective, featuring internal visions of lights, beings, and cosmic phenomena without ties to physical events. Medical severity provides minor evidential support, but lack of any perceptual claims limits the overall strength.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
Are you here because someone you love has died?
These accounts were gathered because death may not be the end. Thousands of people have experienced something beyond — and come back to tell us about it.
