The Story
Andrew A. had a near-death experience from a severe MRSA staph infection that spread to his bloodstream and heart. He collapsed on the east side of Dayton and spent nearly two months in Good Samaritan Hospital's ICU. One night in April, doctors said he might not survive. During the experience, Andrew floated above his body and heard people talking without moving their lips. He saw a small light and walked toward it down a hall, able to walk unlike in his weakened body. He entered the light and felt extreme joy like ecstasy times 10,000. He saw future flashbacks and met deceased family members, including his grandmother, uncle, pawpaw, friends, and especially his father who died in 2003. Andrew told his father how much he loved and missed him. A voice said it was not his time and he needed to go back. He felt a strong pull on his leg at high speed and woke up in the hospital after being gone for a few minutes that felt like a lifetime. After the NDE, Andrew changed his life. He became a college student and stayed sober for the first time in nearly 15 years. He made good progress in recovery despite ongoing complications.
“never felt so good in my life I started I it was like I was seeing flashbacks”
This NDE features a severe medical crisis with brief clinical death, and an out-of-body experience from above the body, but contains no specific, verifiable perceptions of the physical environment or events. All elements are subjective (tunnel light, deceased relatives) with no attempts at verification or corroboration.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
