Dead 11 hours: Jim Woodford's NDE
What Researchers Found
The Story
Jim Woodford was an airline captain who suffered from Guillain-Barré syndrome. The NDE occurred when he overdosed on painkillers in his truck, causing him to die for 11 hours. During the experience, Jim left his body and saw himself slumped over the wheel. He rose into a golden tunnel and emerged in a beautiful paradise with rolling fields and flowers. He approached a dark chasm and faced a fiery demonic creature that called his name. He prayed for help, and three angels appeared to rescue him. They walked him through heaven, showing translucent flowers, singing birds, magnificent horses, and the holy city with halls of learning and a nursery for children. He met Jesus, who reviewed his life and told him to return. After the NDE, Jim became a devout Christian with no remaining symptoms of his illness. He now speaks across North America about heaven and God's love, and wrote a book about his journey.

Exceptional medical crisis with clinical death confirmed by doctors and death certificate, combined with an out-of-body experience providing accurate details of the body and truck from an elevated vantage point, and a specific match between six heavenly contrails and the six family members praying. Evidential strength is moderated by the predominance of unverifiable supernatural visions over physical veridical perceptions and post-revival verification of details.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
