What Researchers Found
The Story
The experiencer was a 17-year-old scuba diver who had a near death experience during a dive in 1972. His primary oxygen supply failed, and he struggled to get air. He blacked out and felt euphoric. He floated above the beach and saw his friends underwater. He flew over familiar places, feeling calm and guided by an unseen force. He encountered a guide and later saw a funeral for himself. He met a figure he recognized as Jesus, who communicated telepathically. Jesus asked him to choose between staying or returning to life. The experiencer chose to return and was revived by his friends. Afterward, he felt changed and struggled to explain his experience to them.
