The Story
Kirsty Salisbury was a 12-year-old competitive gymnast in New Zealand. She had an unknown brain malformation called AVM. After hitting her head during training, she suffered a brain bleed and stroke, leading to paralysis and a coma. Doctors performed emergency surgery, where she flatlined twice, triggering her NDE. During the NDE, Kirsty found herself in a dark place of nothingness. She heard her father's voice urging her to squeeze his hand to show she was okay, but she could not locate her body. A bright white light then surrounded her, making her feel safe and at home. Thousands of beings cheered and welcomed her. Seven or eight closer beings, like featureless silhouettes, felt familiar, but efforts to connect distanced her. She then returned to her body. After the NDE, Kirsty woke up paralyzed but felt everything was perfect and as it should be. She grieved her losses but chose to recover fully, learning to walk and becoming a personal trainer. Years later, she wrote a book on resilience, started a podcast on NDEs, and now speaks internationally to help others find purpose and gratitude despite hardships.
“very warm and beautiful and i felt very safe in this light and then i i could feel it was like vibrations and it was like”
No veridical perception claims are present; the NDE consists of internal spiritual elements like a dark void, welcoming light, featureless beings, and voices without specific, verifiable external details. One potential claim (hearing father's voice urging hand squeeze during surgery) was explicitly disconfirmed by the father. Despite high medical severity with flatlining, lack of impossible access, specificity, verification, or timely reporting limits evidential strength.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
