The Story
In 1969, a 32-year-old married woman and mother of five children suffered a severe flu-like illness. After cleaning her house, she felt extreme tiredness, nausea, sharp stomach pains, a migraine, intense chills, and a sensation of blood stopping in her veins. Her husband called paramedics as she collapsed. During the crisis, she entered a dark, frightening tunnel and saw a beautiful light at the end, which she knew was heaven. She arrived in the light and felt enveloped in indescribable love, in the presence of God without seeing a form. She had a quick life review where her children seemed insignificant like childhood toys. She received knowledge of the universe that filled her with wonder but did not retain it upon return. She suddenly returned to her body, struggling for air from an oxygen tank, and was taken to the hospital. After the NDE, she experienced lasting inner peace, no fear of death, and a solid faith. She believes the soul is eternal and housed temporarily in the body. She feels a longing to return home, finds it hard to grieve for the dead, prays daily with thanks, and believes in miracles and spirit guides.
“and not just any light but a light of that they said it must be the light of”
The host's childhood drowning OBE includes veridical perceptions of specific rescue actions observed from an impossible high vantage point (birch tree) while the body was submerged and lifeless, later matching mother's account. Scores are strong on medical severity, access impossibility, specificity, verification, and weight, but limited by moderate unpredictability, same-location vantage, and post-revival reporting without pre-verification witnesses.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
