The Story
Fred Kioski was a 48-year-old history teacher and devoted Christian. In August 1994, at a family gathering by Sleepy Hollow Lake in Athens, New York, he was struck by lightning while using a payphone. The bolt hit the phone and shocked his face, throwing his body backward. During the NDE, Fred felt himself blast forward while also standing still, watching the phone. He saw his lifeless body on the ground ten feet away and realized he was out of body. He tried to speak to people performing CPR, but they could not hear or see him. He thought, 'I'm dead,' with no strong emotions. He ascended the stairs, his form turning into an energy ball. He passed through a wall to check on his family and saw they were fine. Outside, a bluish-white light enveloped him, bringing calm and love; he knew it was God. People in white surrounded him. God explained that everything has a purpose and humans are placed to fulfill theirs. Fred felt pure positive energy and saw parts of his life pass by. God gave him a choice to return and complete his assignment or leave to rest. Fred chose to return. After the NDE, he woke in the hospital weak and needing oxygen. The experience strengthened his Christian faith and shaped his life profoundly, confirming salvation leads to God.
