The Story
Jeffrey Roods had a near-death experience after attempting suicide by swallowing many pills during a low point in his life, when he lived alone in a difficult area. He first hallucinated a being with an elongated white face, black eyes, and cracked skin that approached him like an old friend and pointed a finger at him. Then he appeared next to a glowing figure in a white robe with long brown hair. He stood before a colorful bubble showing himself sleeping, with another version of himself behind. They flew over fields with arms outstretched, feeling joy and unity with the grass and forest. He descended to join a party of people in medieval clothes and animals dancing at dusk. Alone, he flew faster toward a white-blue-gray light on the horizon. After waking sore and foggy, he ignored the event as hallucinations. Later, he left Christianity over doubts about hell and salvation, explored other religions for five years, and now sees them as ways to explain a loving presence, rejecting control and eternal torment for enlightenment and hope.
