At Peace with Death: A Profound Near-Death Experience NDE
What Researchers Found
The Story
The person was a child with lifelong asthma. The NDE occurred during a severe asthma attack triggered by an unknown allergy to a long-haired gray cat at their aunt's house. The child cuddled with the cat while watching cartoons, used their inhaler repeatedly until it emptied, and delayed waking their aunt. In the car heading to grandparents' house for more medicine, the child lost consciousness after trying an inhaler puff. During the NDE, the child was surrounded by peaceful darkness like space. A white light appeared in the distance and approached, possibly with the child moving toward it. The light came with a beautiful choir sound of two notes, one higher than the other. The light filled the vision, leaving darkness only at the edges. After the NDE, the child woke in the hospital after their heart and brain had stopped; doctors prepared to call time of death, but recovery happened. The experience lessened fear of death, brought analytical comfort from life's vast numbers, and inspired wishing well on others. The person now promotes living with love, kindness, appreciation, and pursuing passions.
“everyone a life full of love and just great experiences um I I really wish for”
This NDE features a severe medical crisis with reported clinical death but contains no veridical perception claims of real-world events from an impossible vantage; the experience is limited to abstract subjective elements like light and sound. The only anomalous detail (mother carrying him to hospital) is self-acknowledged as possibly confused and unverified, yielding minimal evidential strength.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
Are you here because someone you love has died?
These accounts were gathered because death may not be the end. Thousands of people have experienced something beyond — and come back to tell us about it.
