James Owen - In Search of a River: A Near-Death Experience Following a Major Heart Attack

The Story
James Leon Jr. was a busy businessman who experienced a massive heart attack on February 8, 2011, during a stress test at his cardiologist's office. He died four times in the cath lab. First, he saw swirling dark colors. Then, he entered a tunnel toward a white light. The third time, he stood on a cliff overlooking a beautiful fall river valley with crystal-clear water, mountains, a bridge, and a 1950s truck crossing it. A voice told him to fall forward and drift to the light. He flew there, passed through bushes, and met a figure with long white hair, beard, and white robes glowing. The figure called him by name, conducted a life review pointing out disappointments to others and God, and told him he must return to do important work. After the NDE, James searched for the river but learned it was not on Earth. He identified the figure as Enoch and studied him. He reunited with his love after 40 years, and they spread love to others. He wrote a book about his experience and gained insights into future events.
“for some reason I knew it was not God so I sat and the first thing we do is go”
Strong medical severity from multiple clinical deaths during heart attack, confirmed by doctor. However, no veridical perceptions from impossible vantage points; experiences were semi-conscious auditory memories or unverifiable visionary scenes like the river, limiting evidential strength.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
Are you here because someone you love has died?
These accounts were gathered because death may not be the end. Thousands of people have experienced something beyond — and come back to tell us about it.
