Jayne Smith's Near Death Experience
What Researchers Found
The Story
A woman giving birth to her second child in a Delaware hospital experienced a near-death event 35 years ago. During labor pains, she inhaled trilene deeply but remained conscious. She felt a whoosh as her consciousness left her body through the top of her head. She stood in a gray mist, realizing she had died, and felt joy and gratitude for immortality. A brilliant white light enveloped her with total love and safety. She received knowledge that she is eternal and indestructible, and that the universe follows a perfect plan. Bliss built until she wondered if she could handle more, then the light receded. Briefly amnesic, she entered a beautiful meadow with vibrant colors and inner light in all living things. She met a group of robed people on a hill and spoke telepathically with a tall man in purple. He confirmed her death but said it was not her time. He explained no sins exist, only thoughts matter, and she saw her core is perfect love. He shared the simple purpose of everything, which she mostly forgot but believes involves love. A loud banging returned her to her body as the doctor resuscitated her. After the NDE, she understood all humans have a core of perfect love and godness. The journey of life is to consciously connect with this love and awareness of who we truly are.
“light and with this love that was in the dynamic there's just so much going on in”
This NDE lacks any veridical perception claims of the physical world during the alleged out-of-body state; all experiences are internal/spiritual with no descriptions of medical staff, instruments, or events that could be verified. Medical severity suggests anesthesia-level unconsciousness, but without impossible-access observations or corroboration, evidential strength is minimal.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
Are you here because someone you love has died?
These accounts were gathered because death may not be the end. Thousands of people have experienced something beyond — and come back to tell us about it.
