The Story
Kathy McDaniel, a 53-year-old woman, suffered lung failure from a SARS-type flu in 1999. On New Year's Eve, she had no pulse when arriving at the hospital. Doctors put her on a ventilator and induced a coma for three weeks. During the coma, she experienced a distressing near-death event. She awoke in total darkness and realized she was in hell. She ran into a destroyed city with fires and shrieks, hid in concrete, and saw scuttling shapes. A creature challenged her to cut an endless blackberry patch, which regrew. In a beauty parlor, her friend said she looked like hell and did not fit. A demon forced her to carry aborted babies from a procedure room to a disposal warehouse; she refused. Zombie-like men attacked and raped her, saying she would rot with AIDS forever. Led to a snowy cabin for a bad job, she sang 'Away in a Manger' on Christmas and entered a joyful white light in heaven. She met her deceased friend Rick, realized she was dead, and was told to return. People advised her to marry Glenn. After waking, she faced a hard recovery, lost weight, and felt trapped. Past traumas resurfaced, leading her to question life. She joined IANDS for support, wrote a book about her experience, and married Glenn. She now helps others as a 'missionary to hell'.
