Pilot Died, Saw the Future & Talked with God (NDE)
What Researchers Found
The Story
Jim Burton, a pilot and former war correspondent, had a near-death experience after crashing his homemade whimsical airplane into trees when the engine failed during his second flight. He aimed for a lake but overshot it, suffering ruptured lungs, broken ribs, multiple leg fractures, and other injuries. A rescuer called for help, and he was airlifted to a trauma center. During the NDE, Burton teleported to a terrace in a vast ruined city under dark storm clouds. He felt nausea and approached an egg-shaped lattice structure with sector gears showing possible future events. A voice explained it as the process of becoming and the in-between eternity of a moment. He removed painful gears to eliminate bad choices, guided by pain as his compass. The voice shared messages on letting go, celebrating the individual spirit, and being gentle in relationships before sending him back. After the NDE, Burton changed deeply. He gained faith in life's grand design, wrote two books on his experience, and now emphasizes nurturing relationships and living with purpose.
“Angelic or beautiful beings and getting a life review maybe they get a big message or make a big choice and then they come back. For me, no tunnel, no dead loved ones,”
No veridical perceptions reported; the NDE consists entirely of a visionary, metaphorical experience in a non-physical realm with gears representing possible futures, lacking any claims of observing or verifying real-world events inaccessible to normal senses. Despite severe physical trauma indicating compromised brain function, the absence of specific, verifiable perceptual details limits evidential strength.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
Are you here because someone you love has died?
These accounts were gathered because death may not be the end. Thousands of people have experienced something beyond — and come back to tell us about it.
