The Story
Howard Storm was a 38-year-old atheist art professor. In 1985, in Paris, France, he collapsed from a perforated stomach. Doctors gave him an hour to live, but he waited 10 hours in agony without treatment before surgery. During his NDE, Storm left his body and felt wonderful. He followed shadowy beings into darkness, where they tore him apart in torment. He prayed to God, and the beings fled. Jesus appeared as a bright light, rescued him, and filled him with immense love. They conducted a life review with angels, revealing his self-centered life and failures in loving others. Storm asked questions, toured heaven, and saw the future and other worlds. Jesus instructed him to return and love people. After the NDE, Storm abandoned atheism and became a Christian pastor. He quit teaching art, got ordained in 1992, wrote books on his experience, and leads mission trips emphasizing love and kindness.
The account features a basic out-of-body experience with perception of one's own body and nearby individuals (wife and roommate) during unconsciousness from a perforated stomach, but lacks any specific, unpredictable, or verified details that could not have been inferred or remembered normally. No attempts at verification, corroborated perceptions, or timely pre-verification reporting are mentioned.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
Are you here because someone you love has died?
These accounts were gathered because death may not be the end. Thousands of people have experienced something beyond — and come back to tell us about it.
