The Story
Captain James Woodford was an airline pilot and businessman who did not believe in God. He contracted Guillain-Barré syndrome, which caused paralysis and severe pain. He took opioids for relief, and one day he died in his truck from complications, remaining clinically dead for 11 hours. During his NDE, Woodford passed through a tunnel of light into a split landscape with a beautiful misty field on one side and a scorched canyon on the other. He peered into the pit and saw a massive demon emerge, emitting a smell of death and containing screaming souls. The demon climbed toward him and called his name. Terrified, he cried out to God for help. Three tall angels arrived with Christ's light, which repelled the demon. The angels comforted and hugged him, then led him through paradise. He experienced panoramic vision, singing flowers, glowing horses, and heaven's buildings, including a nursery for innocent children's souls. After returning, Woodford became a Christian. He wrote the book 'Heaven: An Unexpected Journey' and shares his story to warn about hell and praise God's love.
“of the light and i turned to the light i raised both my hands and i cried out”
This NDE features a severe medical crisis with 11 hours of apparent clinical death, supported by medical reports, but contains no veridical perception claims of real-world events, people, or objects during unconsciousness. The experience is entirely visionary (tunnel, hell pit, angels, heaven), lacking any specific, verifiable details from the physical world that could be checked against reality.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
