The Story
Mike McKenzie had his near-death experience in 2004 during his son's wedding vacation in Ventura, California. He ruptured his appendix after playing baseball with his kids, which caused severe pain, fever, and infection. He went to the ER after the wedding and underwent emergency surgery. During surgery, Mike saw Jesus standing next to him in a white robe. Jesus held out his hand and said, 'I want to answer your prayer.' Mike took his hand and appeared on a hill in bright white surroundings. His senses sharpened; he felt every blade of grass under his feet. A light source sent warm, buzzing beams through him. The white fog cleared to show a valley with colorful flowers, gold-domed buildings, tall spires without crosses, perfect pine trees, and a vivid sunset. Beams hit the trees and burst into bright lights. Jesus said it was 'the glory of the Lord.' Mike fell to his knees and woke up in the hospital. After 12 days in the hospital and losing 35 pounds, Mike realized the experience answered his childhood prayers to see Heaven and God's glory. He became emotional, wrote the book 'Accidental Heaven' in 2010, and started sharing his story publicly to spread faith. He now lives with less stress, constant prayer, and a purpose to impact others for Christianity.

This NDE lacks any veridical perception claims, consisting entirely of a visionary encounter with Jesus and a heavenly landscape without impossible sensory access or verifiable details from the physical world. Post-anesthesia recollections of waking in surgery are normally accessible and unverified, limiting evidential strength.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
