The Story
Bill Vandenbush was a 19-year-old U.S. soldier in Vietnam. In April 1969, a bomb exploded near him during combat, causing severe shrapnel wounds, a crushed face, torn-out right eye, and massive bleeding. He accepted death as he lay injured. He entered a dark tunnel and moved toward a white light. There, he became a ball of energy in a place of love, warmth, and knowledge. He met his deceased grandfather, who comforted him and showed him around. An authority figure told him it was not his time, he had a purpose to fulfill, and he would return to the same moment. He went back through the tunnel to his body on the battlefield, surrounded by peace despite the ongoing fight. After the NDE, Bill endured 20 surgeries and recovered better than expected, regaining speech through scar tissue vibration. He changed careers to mental health, earned a master's in social work, helped severely ill veterans recover independence, wrote a book, and speaks worldwide about NDEs and spiritual guidance.
“i just felt still at peace i felt that in my body i felt it outside my body”
The transcript describes severe injuries leading to an NDE with out-of-body perceptions, including seeing oneself and hearing specific medic instructions from an impossible vantage, but no attempts at verification or corroborated details are reported, preventing higher evidential value.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
Are you here because someone you love has died?
These accounts were gathered because death may not be the end. Thousands of people have experienced something beyond — and come back to tell us about it.
