The Story
Peter Panagore was a 20-year-old ice climber in western Canada in 1980. A mistake led to severe hypothermia on a mountain, where he was harnessed 150 feet up and could not descend. He surrendered to the cold and fell asleep, entering clinical death. During the NDE, darkness surrounded him, and a star-like light took him upward. He saw himself as light and experienced superposition, viewing from multiple perspectives. A vast multicolored light enveloped him, filling him with unconditional love. He relived harming others from their viewpoints, felt shame, but understood universal love. He saw the universe, Earth, and light in all people. After viewing his family's potential suffering, he chose to return. The voice confirmed he could return to bliss later. He was sent back through a tunnel into his body. His partner revived him. After the NDE, Panagore felt alien in his body. He abandoned architecture plans, pursued mysticism and meditation. He attended divinity school, became a pastor, but left organized religion. He now teaches meditation, writes books, and shares NDEs to normalize them, finding purpose in helping others.
“come back here to this Bliss in heaven and the voice said yes it's time for you”
This NDE features a profound mystical experience during clinical death from severe hypothermia, but contains no claims of veridical perceptions—such as observing specific physical events, conversations, or details impossible to know via normal senses. All elements are internal, visionary, and unverified against external reality, limiting evidential strength.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
Are you here because someone you love has died?
These accounts were gathered because death may not be the end. Thousands of people have experienced something beyond — and come back to tell us about it.
