The Story
Kathy McDaniel, a 53-year-old woman, had a near-death experience in late 1999. She cared for her dying friend with leukemia, then caught a severe flu that led to pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome. She collapsed while coughing up blood, lost her pulse, and doctors induced a coma to treat her. During the NDE, Kathy awoke in darkness that turned foggy and reddish with shrieks and a booming voice saying she knew where she was. She ran into a bombed-out city with chaos, encountered demons, and faced tasks like cutting regrowing blackberry canes with tiny scissors. She walked a dim road, met a living relative who denied her food, and was attacked by zombie-like figures who claimed to give her AIDS. A demon led her and other women through deep snow to a cold cabin to wait for customers on Christmas. She sang a carol, shifting to bliss and light where she met her healthy deceased friend. He told her she had too much left to do and sent her back. After the NDE, Kathy recovered through rehab, regaining strength despite anger and fear. She married her rescuer, found support via IONS after years, and now shares her story through books, talks, and a support group. She rejected shame from her Catholic beliefs, embraced pre-birth planning, and lives purposefully by promoting God's love and forgiveness, using a daily mantra of positive traits.

The experience is entirely subjective, consisting of internal visions of hellish and heavenly realms without any verifiable earthly details.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
